How to Create a Guide
A Guide is a collection of prompts and questions that tells Vamp how to conduct the interview and what topics to cover, similar to a written interview guide a human researcher would use. It's easy to create your first Guide and start collecting responses.
First, navigate to the Guides page in the navigation menu.
Next, select the New Guide button at the top of the page to be taken to the New Guide - Details screen.
Guide Details
Basic Details
Once you're on the Details screen, give the Guide a unique name in the Name field.
Next, select the tone you would like Vamp AI to take when conducting the interview from the Tone select dropdown. Your options are Academic, Casual, and Professional.
If there are special instructions or terms you would like participants to agree to before starting the interview, you may insert those in the Informed Consent field.
Demographics
Vamp provides several demographic options that will be asked after the interview is complete. You may select as many as you like.
Limits
The Limits section allows you to decide when interviews will be conducted, and how many interviews you want to collect for this Guide. This allows you to spread your monthly allotment over multiple Guides without needing to worry about going over.
Set the Interview Limit field to the maximum number of interviews you want Vamp to conduct for this Guide. If the field is set to "0" (zero) then no limit will be applied.
Optionally, add a Start Date and End Date to indicate when you would like interviews to be conducted.
An empty Start Date indicates interviews should be conducted as soon as the Guide is published. A Guide with a future Start Date will be marked as "Scheduled," and no interview will be conducted until that date.
A Guide set to "Draft" will not collect interviews when it reaches the Start Date. The Guide must be published before any interviews will be conducted.
An empty End Date allows interviews to be conducted indefinitely into the future, until the Interview Limit is reached, the Team's interview quota is depleted, the Guide is set to "Draft", or the Guide is archived. If a Guide has an End Date, it will be marked as "Complete" and stop collecting interviews when it reaches that date.
Start Date and End Date fields are set using the timezone of the Team Member that created the Guide, as selected in their Profile Settings. Interviews will be conducted between the beginning of the day on the Start Date and the end of the day on the End Date.
Prompt Template
Now you may select a Prompt Template from the Template dropdown field.
You can also quickly filter the list by entering a search query.
When you select a Template, a preview will display below the field. if you want to create your own prompt, you can select "No Template".
Select the Next button to proceed to the New Guide - Structure screen.
Guide Structure
Prompt
You can quickly fill in template placeholders in the fields above the Prompt. These fields will differ based on the template you selected in the previous step.
If you selected "No Template" from the Template dropdown in the previous step, you will not see any placeholder fields. You may enter your custom prompt in the Prompt field.
Once you have filled in all the placeholders, you may edit the Prompt field to your liking. This is where you can tell Vamp the topics to cover, the kinds of questions you would like it to ask, and provide any background information it may need to conduct the interview.
Interview Questions
Next, select the approximate number of questions you would like asked during the interview in the Approximate Number of Questions select field. This option allows you to control the duration of the interview.
Finally, you may provide any Static Questions you would like asked before Vamp AI takes over. These questions will be asked verbatim, as written. However, the AI will be aware of these questions and take them into account when continuing the interview.
If you would like to add a Static Question, select the Add Question button. This will display a text field where you may enter your question. Static Questions must be at least 24 characters long.
If you would like to remove a Static Question, you may select the trash can icon in the lower, right-hand corner of the text field.
Remember, Static Questions are asked at the beginning of the interview, before Vamp AI asks any questions. Therefore, these should be phrased as opening questions, not closing questions.
Save Guide
Once you have filled out all the appropriate fields, you may select Save Draft or the Publish button.
Save Draft will set the Guide to "Draft" and prevent it from collecting interviews until it is published. The Publish button will set the Guide to "Active" or "Scheduled" and allow you to copy the public link to the interview chat screen.
Both options will navigate you to your new Guide's detail page.
